On December 5, 2024, Kusuri no Aoki Holdings Co., Ltd. (Code: 3549, hereinafter referred to as "Kusuri no Aoki") announced that it had signed a contract to acquire the supermarket business and related assets of 46 stores operated by four companies: Fushimiya Co., Ltd., Honma Bussan Co., Ltd., Topmart Co., Ltd., and LogiPlanning Sendai Co., Ltd., which primarily operate in the Tohoku and Kanto regions.
Purpose of M&A
Kusuri no Aoki is a company operating 951 drugstores (including 644 stores with in-store dispensing pharmacies) and 18 supermarkets across regions from Hokushinetsu to Kansai and Shikoku, with annual revenue exceeding 400 billion yen. The company adheres to its corporate philosophy of "health, beauty, and hygiene," delivering community-focused services.
Through this acquisition, Kusuri no Aoki aims to provide highly convenient stores that integrate the fresh food offerings of supermarkets, the products of drugstores, and the prescription services of dispensing pharmacies. Additionally, this M&A is expected to mark the company’s entry into Akita Prefecture for the first time and significantly expand its store network in the eastern Japan region, further strengthening its localized dominant strategy.
While the specific acquisition price and stock exchange terms have not been disclosed, the company plans to implement store enhancement initiatives, including renovations.
